Pneumonia Treatment

Pneumonia Treatment

Pneumonia is a serious lung infection that causes inflammation in the air sacs (alveoli) of one or both lungs. These air sacs may fill with fluid or pus, leading to symptoms such as cough with phlegm, fever, chills, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi and can range from mild to life-threatening, especially in infants, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.

At our hospital, we provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for all types of pneumonia. The diagnostic process begins with a thorough physical examination, medical history review, and investigations such as chest X-ray, blood tests, sputum analysis, and oxygen level monitoring. In severe or unclear cases, a CT scan or bronchoscopy may be required.

Treatment is based on the type and severity of pneumonia:

  • Bacterial pneumonia is treated with appropriate antibiotics.

  • Viral pneumonia may require antiviral medications and supportive care.

  • Fungal pneumonia is treated with antifungal drugs.

In addition to medications, patients are given fever control, hydration, and oxygen therapy if oxygen levels are low. Severe cases may require hospitalization, intravenous antibiotics, and even ICU care with ventilator support.

For high-risk patients and those with underlying health conditions, close monitoring is essential to prevent complications such as respiratory failure, sepsis, or lung abscess.

Preventive care is also an important part of pneumonia management. We advise vaccinations (like pneumococcal and influenza vaccines), smoking cessation, good hygiene practices, and timely medical consultation for respiratory symptoms.

Our experienced pulmonologists and critical care team ensure that each patient receives timely, personalized, and evidence-based care. With our advanced facilities and compassionate approach, we are committed to helping patients recover fully and return to a healthy life.
